What’s the Difference Between Event Liability Insurance and Wedding Insurance?

When planning a wedding, there are many details to consider, and insurance is one that often gets overlooked. At VillageVows, we require all couples to have event liability insurance, and here’s why.

Event Liability Insurance vs. Wedding Insurance

These two types of insurance are often confused, but they serve different purposes.

Event Liability Insurance

This type of coverage protects you in case something happens during your event that causes injury or property damage. For example:

  • A guest gets injured during the celebration

  • Damage occurs to the venue or rented equipment

  • Alcohol-related incidents

This is the type of insurance that venues typically require.

Wedding Insurance (Cancellation or Postponement)

This coverage is optional and protects your financial investment if something unexpected happens before the wedding, such as:

  • Illness or injury

  • Severe weather

  • Vendor cancellations

While it’s not required, it can offer additional peace of mind.

Why We Require Event Liability Insurance

At VillageVows, we carry our own insurance as a venue. However, each event is unique, and having your own event liability insurance ensures that everyone is protected.

This coverage helps:

  • Protect you as the host

  • Protect your guests

  • Protect the venue and vendors involved

It’s a simple step that allows your day to move forward with confidence.

Examples of Coverage

Different providers offer slightly different types of protection depending on your needs:

  • AMA Insurance explains that event liability coverage helps protect against accidents involving guests or damage to the venue during your event.

  • Sharp Insurance highlights that this type of policy can include coverage for bodily injury and property damage, which is why many venues require it.

  • PAL Insurance offers specialized wedding event coverage, including options like Weddinguard, and the ability to add cancellation coverage for additional protection.

Our Recommendation

We recommend using PAL Insurance, as they offer coverage specifically designed for weddings and events, and the process is simple and reliable.

You may also choose to work with your own insurance broker. Just keep in mind that brokers may include additional service fees depending on the provider.

A Simple Step for Peace of Mind

Insurance might not be the most exciting part of wedding planning, but it’s one of the most important. With the right coverage in place, you can focus on what truly matters: enjoying your day.

We’re here to make the process feel simple and supported, every step of the way. If you have any questions about insurance or what’s required, feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to help.
